ABSTRACT

The invention is related to computer engineering and control and information input technologies. It can be used for information input in mobile phones, smartphones, palm computers, notebooks, personal computers, computers and it can be used for the control of electronic and technical devices of any complexity as well.

In each case of location of the fact of pointing on “working surface” 14 PDA provided by sensor display (5, 6), and designation, as a result of this, of the corresponding to this fact of pointing “pointing part” 9 of active fields 15 and 17 of the required functions shown on “working surface” 14 one presses “working surface” 14 in “area of contact” 12 of the corresponding fact of pointing, and then lets off “working surface” 14 with saving “area of contact” 12, here one changes the condition of additionally built-in into moving case 1 PDA of pressing sensor 3 or 8, in response on “working surface” 14 one forms pulldown menu with variants of functions related to the function designated by “pointing part” 9. At that each of variants has its own active field 17 on “working surface” 14, and active fields 17 are located just next to the active field of the designated by “pointing part” 9 function 15 or 17. For choice of the required variant of the designated function one moves “pointing part” 9 on “working surface” 14 towards the necessary active field 17 in proportion to horizontal moving of corresponding to it “area of contact” 12 on “working surface” 14; having designated by “pointing part” 9 active field 17 of the required function one deletes “area of contact” 12 on “working surface” 14, in response one inputs designated by “pointing part” 9 required function, and so on.

DISADVANTAGES OF KNOWN INPUT METHODS

Because of that in the nearest future it tends to integrate all mobile portable palm-size logical devices into a unique mobile universal communicator that integrates functions of a mobile videophone, portable computer, photo – video camera, audio – video player, portable television game device, satellite Internet-TV-set, global satellite navigator, remote control console of different devices and so on, which has prospects to spread in greater number and to be of greater demand than a personal desktop computer or notebook, there is the problem of convenient communication with a similar portable palm-size logical device, in which the proposed in declared invention method of increasing speed of texts typing and the proposed in declared portable palm-size logical device scheme of input devices undoubtedly can be used for shortcut choice of other functions, that therefore will increase the communication speed of a user with a similar portable palm-size logical device and at the same time will reduce its cost value and will increase reliability in respect to the known devices that can realize functions similar to the declared ones in the invention.

And also on account of that intelligence and technical facilities of modern mobile phones enlarged considerably, these portable palm-size logical devices require new input device and improved communication with a user.

Here all known input devices and corresponding input methods relating to fingers yield to the proposed device and input method in respect to efficiency of usage and simplicity of construction.

Arguments for using the given scheme of input devices in mobile phones are that modern mobile phones have a usual phone keyboard that all the producing companies install with continuous constancy, practically is not used straight purposely and is a morally out-of-date, absolutely unnecessary device which takes active area of a display which size is increased with every new model of mobile phones. As is well known in mobile phones a joystick is used mostly for call and moving through menu items, and for filling in a phonebook and work with an organizer a whole textual and digital keyboard is used jointly, each button of which corresponds to 3-7 symbols that makes a user perform several pressings on the button in order to choose one symbol. Besides, in modern mobile phones in order to increase the speed of texts typing due to a user’s access to the whole virtual textual keyboard in the mode one symbol – one access for filling in an organizer, phonebook, typing SMS-messages it is impossible to use a pen – stylus for input to access minute buttons of this virtual keyboard on the touchscreen, since for this purpose two user’s hands are necessary in mobile conditions, one is to hold a mobile phone and the other is for holding a stylus but as it is well known the mandatory requirement to mobile phones is the providing possibility to input information into a phone under mobile conditions by means of one hand and a corresponding thumb.

In case of application in a mobile phone a touchscreen, on which a picture of virtual keyboard is formed in combination with the known used in PDA method of texts input that supports offer of variants of recognized words in the window placed over the virtual keyboard in combination with the known method that provides a user with the possibility to communicate with a mobile phone equipped with a touchscreen by means of fingers and without a stylus, published on 7 August 2003, (10) ¹ US 20030146905 A1,  (21) 10/327,681, (30) 20 December 2001 (FI) 20012540, (54) «USING TOUCHSCREEN BY BOINTING MEANS»,  (73) assignee: Nokia Corporation, in this known method in respect to the proposed for your studying method:

1.  a user is not provided with the possibility when inputting texts on the virtual keyboard to concentrate his visual attention in the area of finger manipulation and area of eyes (sight) access to this virtual keyboard as a user has to transmit the fact of eyes (sight) access from the field of  virtual keyboard to the area over this keyboard where windows with words variants are placed that leads to the loss of visual contact with the virtual keyboard and to decreasing input speed respectively,

2.  there is not provided the possibility to continue search of variants of the chosen and designated by a user word or letter combination in the window over the virtual keyboard,

3.  a user’s finger (fact of pointing) for choice of a recognized word performs greater number of actions and follows larger distance on the “working surface” of touchscreen to the area of required active field over the virtual keyboard  where windows with word variants are placed that leads to decreasing input speed,

4.  freedom of choice is not provided for a user to turn to the method of shortcut texts input at any necessary for him moment,

5.  a lot of time is spent for call of a download menu (it is meant the action on a touchscreen in accordance with which the element is designated by touching and touching is held), in case when a user calls other elements on the “working surface” of touchscreen, besides the virtual keyboard that leads to decreasing input speed,

6.  there is not provided the possibility to perform quickly such actions as dragging of the designated element on a touchscreen, insert of a textual blinking cursor into the typed on touchscreen word, etc.

DISADVANTAGEOUS OF KNOWN INPUT DEVICES

I would like to draw your attention especially to that such large scale companies as Siemens Corporation in its new technology 3D Touchscreen, or Nokia Corporation in the materials of invention application (10) ¹ US 20030146905 A1,  (21) 10/327,681, (30) 20 December 2001 (FI) 20012540, (54) «USING TOUCHSCREEN BY BOINTING MEANS» (See. points 8 and 13 of invention formula, and points [0017] and [0018] of description of the application), for realization of analogous functional facilities with the proposed input device two coordinate devices are applied simultaneously in the scheme of input devices, the first one identifies the position of a fingertip before actual touching the display and the second one identifies the position of a fingertip at actual touching the display surface.

Such a scheme of input devices is of no sense.

Firstly, as such a scheme is considerably more expensive, complex, and does not provide a user with clear feedback and provides less number of possible variants of access to a computer in comparison with the proposed scheme.

Secondly, application of simultaneously two coordinate devices disables to use such mandatory requirement at input of any information by means of fingers as possibility of fixation of the “fact of pointing” (in this case of a fingertip) relatively to “working surface” due to frictional force to provide the possibility of exact access to minute active fields (accurate pointing at minute active fields) of required functions (letters or symbols of a virtual keyboard), before transmitting a computer the message by touching (pressing) this “working surface” of portable palm-size logical device that provides input of specified functions. As a result the number of sequentially transmitted a computer messages corresponding to one “area of contact” of fact of pointing with “working surface” is limited in comparison with the proposed scheme.

Explanation to mandatory requirement of fixation of pointing means in process of information input due to frictional force :

The matter is that design engineers being fond of high technologies forget that a user is not a machine but a man and his hand and fingers tremble. That is, the fact of pointing to a greater or lesser extent is subjected to vibration relatively to the “working surface”. Thereafter absolutely all information input schemes by means of hands and fingers support without fail the possibility of fixation of the “fact of pointing” (in this case, a finger or pen and stylus which are held by fingers) in relation to the “working surface” due to frictional force.

In this case the attention is accented to that in information input process by means of his hands a man surely fixes pointing means due to frictional force on a fixed surface, i.e. stationary in respect to the “working surface” which he accesses to by pointing means. For example, when inputting handwriting text on a sheet of paper lying (being fixed) on the desk by means of a pen that a user holds with a hand, this hand is certainly fixed on this desk due to frictional force arising between this hand and the desk surface which is stationary (fixed) in relation to this sheet of paper that is in this case the “working surface”.

Besides, when inputting information in the desktop computer by means of a mouse, especially in cases when it is necessary to perform by means of a mouse micro-movement of a cursor on the display, the availability of mouse fixation facility and a controlling it hand on the “working surface” of a desk due to frictional force arising between this desk and the hand or bottom part of the mouse case is obligatory.

Also when inputting information in a portable palm-size logical device under mobile conditions with the help of a stylus for increasing input speed and access to minute graphical images the exact fixation of pointing means in respect to the “working surface” is necessary. It is provided owing to frictional force arising between the hand holding the stylus and another hand holding the portable palm-size logical device.

Availability of simultaneously two coordinate devices in this portable palm-size logical device, one of which is intended for identifying facts of touching (pressing) on the “working surface of touchscreen” and the second is intended for identifying facts of pointing on the own “working surface of coordinate device” before the actual contact with the “working surface of touchscreen” hampers efficient application of fingertips as pointing means in this portable palm-size logical device under mobile conditions accompanied with inevitable presence of natural vibration of a user’s hands. At that especially considerable vibrations in this case are unhealthy vibrations of fingertips before actual contact with ”working surface of touchscreen” which are used in this case as pointing means since the amplitude value of these vibrations can considerably affect the accuracy of pointing (access) of minute active fields of different necessary functions shown on the “working surface” of a portable device in the form of graphical  images which a user points (accesses) by means of fingertips. As a result there is a high probability of invalid pointings (accesses) that cause performance by a user of additional actions necessary for canceling functions inputted by mistake, that correspondingly takes from a user extra time for performance of these actions in process, in this case, of text input. Therefore the communication speed of a user with a portable palm-size logical device decreases, in this case text input speed goes down as well. Also here a user is respectively disabled to access efficiently to a portable palm-size logical device by means of two hands and two corresponding thumbs of these hands simultaneously, which tips are used as pointing means, since a user is disabled to fix the fingertips position on the “working surface of touchscreen” owing to frictional force arising between fingertips surface and “the working surface of touchscreen” during the choice and pointing of the required function on this “working surface”. Thereafter information input speed decreases as to fix pointing means in relation to the “working surface of touchscreen” in a mobile phone or PDA that is provided with two coordinate devices it is necessary to apply a stylus held by a hand, a tip of the stylus performs the role of pointing means. (In this case it is meant that holding an individual finger hanging over the “working surface” of touchscreen even in the case when a portable device provided with this touchscreen is kept by a hand corresponding to this finger is accompanied by vibrations (trembling) of a fingertip in respect to the “working surface”, while holding a stylus or, for example, a pen by three fingers simultaneously under the condition of fixation of the corresponding to these fingers hand on any surface as stationary in relation to “the working surface” practically eliminates these vibrations. Only under this condition it is provided the obligatory fixation of pointing means owing to frictional force arising between a hand holding this stylus and the second hand holding a portable palm-size logical device. As for the above mentioned this condition is surely met when a user fixes both hands due to frictional force on his own body or any object).

As a result, in contrast to the input device submitted for your consideration a user is disabled to perform quick and accurate micro-movements on “the working surface” which are provided by frictional force arising in modes of horizontal movements of touching between fingers surface and “the working surface” and without fail necessary for providing the possibility of pointing at minute graphical images of required functions, communication speed of a user with a portable palm-size logical device decreases respectively.

Thirdly, in connection with that for communication with electronic logical devices the main organs of sense which provide the possibility of such communication are organs of vision, organs of touch and organs of hearing; usage of simultaneously two coordinate devices practically exclude from this communication process organs of touching and organs of hearing since as a result of application of such a scheme of input devices clear feedback is eliminated for a user in the form of tactile and sound confirmation for organs of touch and organs of hearing – click – that the command providing function input is performed, but for all that in desktop personal computers when using a device of similar purpose – mouse – availability of tactile and sound confirmation for organs of touch and organs of hearing – click – is an obligatory condition, here respectively such functional peculiarity of a mouse provides the possibility to keep fingers on the working surface of mouse buttons with clear tactile understanding that there are no occasional facts of input done before the fact of performing “the click”, and  correspondingly it is provided the possibility to keep muscles in relaxed condition which control these fingers in process of durable access to a personal computer, therefore time of comfortable communication of a user with a personal computer by means of a mouse increases. Thereafter, taking into consideration this factor availability of simultaneously two coordinate devices comparing to the declared device in case when touching is identified as a message or input command eliminates the possibility for a user at durable communication, for example, with PDA, to keep in relaxed condition fingers in process of information input on “the working surface” in a mode of touching this “working surface”. Also availability of two coordinate devices, one of which provides recognizing the fact of pointing and identification at that of “area of contact” and its coordinates on the “working surface” before the actual touching of “the working surface of touchscreen” disables a user to have clear tactile feedback in case when the designated function is inputted in response to deleting “area of contact” on “the working surface” by vertical movement the fact of pointing from “the working surface” to an unrecognizable mode as tactile contact of fingertips with “the working surface” in this case does not take place at all.

Reasoning from all the above availability in the known portable palm-size logical devices of one or two coordinate devices or the display identifying fact of access before actual touching “the working surface” or identifying fact of access at actual touching the display taking into account the submitted for your consideration invention substantially is of no sense.

For example, for Siemens 3D Touchscreen availability of coordinate device identifying fact of access at actual touching the display taking into account the proposed invention makes no sense.

ADVANTAGES OF THE PROPOSED METHOD

Sequential vertical pressing on “working surface” (14) in “area of contact” (12) of the corresponding fact of pointing the required letter and then vertical letting off “working surface” (14) in this “area of contact” (12) of the corresponding fact of pointing the required letter for a certain period of time with the subsequent saving on “working surface” (14) of “area of contact” (12) and the corresponding fact of pointing in the mode of recognizable pointing (1 CLICK on the designated by “pointing part” active field of the designated letter on “virtual keyboard (20)) provides a user freedom in choosing at any moment of communication with a portable palm-size logical device of usual text input by sequential letter input and the proposed shortcut input method and also provides the quickest access to download menu fetching – the assistant, since at vertical moving of pressing and letting off in this case without additional horizontal movements  a user’s finger follows most quickly the shortest way that provides the choice of additional required function that increases the communication speed of a user with logical block.

In response to the quick action of pressing – letting off on “working surface” the formation of download menu with variants of words, which begin from a designated letter, or variants of letter combinations (for example, syllables) that begin from a designated letter or variants of words, which begin from the part of initially inputted word that finished by a designated letter, each of which has its own active field (17) on “working surface” (14), provides a user the possibility instead of searching on virtual keyboard (20) the next letter of a required word to perform search of the full required word in the download menu. At that in case when it is used the corresponding program that provides fetching in the menu those words that are used most frequently at texts inputting on this portable palm-size logical device, and when text is inputted on virtual keyboard (20) at least by two fingers simultaneously in this download menu immediately after two sequential accesses to the required letters, it is possible to offer variants of words that begin from the first designated letter and finished by the second designated letter that considerably reduces the variants of search of the required word by logical block (2) and considerably increases the probability of that the necessary for a user word will be offered in the download menu practically at once after the first two accesses that at most increases the speed of texts typing in the portable palm-size logical device.

Movement of “pointing part” (9) on “working surface” (14) towards the required active field (17) in proportion to horizontal movement of corresponding to it “area of contact” (12) on “working surface” (14) by horizontal movement of corresponding to this “area of contact” (12) fact of pointing on this “working surface” (14) in a mode of horizontal recognizable movement of pointing, provided that when active fields (17) of a download menu placed near are close to “area of contact” (12) of the initial fact of pointing (as shown on fig. 14, 15, 17, 18, 22, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32) provides the shortest way of movement of “pointing part” (9) and corresponding “area of contact” (12) on “working surface” (14) to required active field (17), as a result quick access to a required word is provided.

Input of a designated in menu required word or letter combination by vertical movement of fact of pointing from “working surface” to an unrecognizable mode provides maximum input speed.

Possibility to continue search of a required word that begins from a designated in download menu word, that is a part of this required word or possibility to continue search of variants of a designated in download menu word (for example, derivatives of a designated word) or possibility to continue search of a required word that begins from a designated in download menu letter combination (for example, syllable) by sequential vertical pressing on this “working surface” (14) in “area of contact” (12) of the corresponding fact of pointing, and then vertical letting off “working surface” (14) in “area of contact” (12) of the corresponding fact of pointing for a certain period of time with subsequent saving “area of contact” (12) and the corresponding fact of pointing in a mode of recognizable pointing (1 CLICK on designated by “pointing part” active field (17) of a word or letter combination in download menu) on “working surface” (14), here in response to deleting the previous menu and formation on “the working surface” of the new download menu with variants of words that begin from the word which saved designation, and is a part of the required word or with variants of the word that saved designation (for example, word designated in derivatives) or with variants of words that begin from having saved designation letter combination (for example, syllable), provides a user by linear search to reach the required word and to ensure for himself the possibility to input text not by sequential letter input but by sequential input of full words with minimum number of actions and movements. At this respectively in case when variants of the proposed words or letter combinations and their active fields (17) are located next to the fact of pointing and “area of contact” (12) where the user’s view is directly focused, a user has the possibility not to move this view as in the known methods of texts input searching the following required letter on virtual keyboard (20), or searching the required word in windows over virtual keyboard (20), and practically not shifting user's gaze aside to read variants of the proposed words next to the fact of pointing. As it is known reading process is done considerably quicker that any other process of texts input by letters, therefore, a user with minimum number of movements practically by reading the required words provides input of these words by slipping and pressing and letting off “working surface” (14), here that is very important and considerably speeds-up texts input with typing texts by words, all grammar mistakes or misprints when hitting the button of virtual keyboard (20) mistakenly when inputting texts by letters are excepted, and for correcting of which too much time is spent. As a result of this the proposed method of texts input with a certain user’s skill provides the texts input speed approximated to the reading speed or speaking speed of a man.

Here because of that by typing texts each typed by a user text especially of large scale is obligatory to have its specific subjects which stipulate obligatory repeating in the text the same words or repeating variants of the same word (for example, in cases, in tenses, etc.), and also on account of that, for example, in mobile phones practically all inputted SMS – messages have a pattern character by which the words used by a user are often repeated in the next input of SMS – message then in case when in combination with the proposed shortcut method of texts input in all variants of search of a required word the logical block by means of the known special program offers in the download menus the variants of the most usable for a certain period of time words or letter combinations on this portable palm-size logical device, the input is provided by means of two fingers, for example, of the word consisting of ten letters at the worst development of search scenario of the required word by means of ten movements of fingers at the shortest followed distance on “the working surface” of pointing means (read: fingertips) (i.e. distances that are followed by fingertips to “active field” (17) of a required word or letter combination in download menu, see point 6 of the invention formula and fig. 14, 15, 17, 18, 22, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 of the attached graphical materials) in the process of performing these movements, and at the best search scenario – by means of five movements, in the meantime at the sequential typing by letters for inputting the word of ten letters a user needs to perform twenty nine movements in the given case with two fingers at the longest followed distance on “working surface” (14) (i.e. the distances followed by fingertips to “active fields” (15) of required letters of virtual keyboard (20)). (Twenty nine movements include: input of one letter = 1 movement – vertical pressing, 2 movement – vertical letting off, then = 3 movement – horizontal movement of a finger to the next required letter and so on = 29 movements for inputting 10 symbols).

See. fig. 34. Designation in the download menu by “specified graphical change” (29) of one of the proposed in this menu words (28) or letter combination (28) of corresponding to designated by “pointing part” (9) letter, word or letter combination, which was the most frequent in use at texts input on this portable palm-size electronic device for a certain period of time provides a user under the successful search scenario and offer of required variants of recognized words and letter combinations by logical block (2) which probability is very high, and the subsequent possibility of inputting designated by “specified graphical change” (29) in this menu of word (28) or letter combination (28) by repeated vertical pressing and following vertical letting off on “working surface” (14) in the initial “area of contact” (12) of the corresponding initial fact of pointing provides finger moving by the shortest way for minimum period of time for input of a required word or letter combinations.

That is, the possibility to input these words by usual double click on “working surface” (14) is provided in each successful offer of variants of recognized by logical block (2) words.

Possibility at the following saving after input of a word or letter combination on “working surface” (14) of “area of contact” (12) and the corresponding fact of pointing in a mode of recognizable pointing, not to input a blank after the word or letter combination (for example, syllable) inputted provides a user the possibility without doing unnecessary movements to continue typing the inputted word or letter combination in the case if the word inputted is a part of the required word or if, for example, a user chose the function of words input by syllables.

Possibility without changing the location of “pointing part” (9) deleting step by step “area of contact” (12) and the corresponding fact of pointing and this “pointing part” (9) from “working surface” (14), to input in response a blank after the inputted word or letter combination, and at that in each case when after this action a punctuation mark is inputted, in response to move the blank after this punctuation mark, provides reducing the number of actions in text input, and increases the speed of texts typing.

ADVANTAGES OF THE PROPOSED DEVICE

Such a construction of case (1) consisting of two separate parts mobile to each other and at that stationary fixing display (5) in one of the parts of this case (1), provides the possibility to eliminate the shortcoming in connection of the scheme of input devices – movable display (5) in the known scheme of input devices «Input and control device – keyboard» (see materials if invention application ÐÑÒ (54) «Input and control device – keyboard» (21) ÐÑÒ/UA2003/000045, (22) November, 7, 2003 (07.11.2003) (30) 20003010665, 27 January, 2003 (27.01.2003) UA). Here there is provided the possibility of connecting to these part of case (1) the simplest at least one pressing sensor (3), as a result the possibility when pressing on “working surface” (14) to change condition of given pressing sensor (3) is provided, thereafter connection of given pressing sensor (3) to logical block (2) provides the possibility to transmit signals to logical block (2) about facts of pressing and letting off on “working surface” (14), as a result a user is provided with the possibility to use additional fast performed actions providing the choice of required functions on “working surface” (14), which are clearly recognized by logical block. Respectively these additional actions provide speeding-up of user’s access to logical block (2) and increase number of variants of access to logical block (2) by means of a user’s fingers without using the second additional coordinate device.

Application in this portable palm-size logical device in variant of using, for example, two pressing sensors (3) and (8) of elastic additional element (4) that has such an elastic force at which it is kept unchangeable the condition of each add-in pressing sensor (3) or (8) in each case of touching by fingers “working surface” (14) and in each case of horizontal movements of touching by fingers on “working surface” (14), and also at which in each case of pressing by fingers “working surface” (14) in the area of “working surface” (14) that corresponds to its own add-in pressing sensor (3) or (8) and in each case of horizontal movements of pressing by fingers on “working surface” (14) in the area of this “working surface” that corresponds to its add-in pressing sensor (3) or (8) it is changed the condition of each corresponding to the own area of “working surface” (14) add-in pressing sensor (3) or (8) owing to the incipient frictional force between fingertips and “working surface” (14) in “area of contact” (12), provides efficient applying of fingertips as a pointing means in the given portable palm-size logical device under mobile conditions accompanied by obligatory occurrence of natural vibrations of user’s hands, hereby especially considerable vibrations in this case are unhealthy vibrations of fingertips before actual contact with “working surface” (14) that are peculiar to the most users since the value of amplitude of these vibrations can be more than the size of active fields (15) or (17) of the required functions or letters of virtual keyboard that considerably affects the accuracy of pointing (access) these minute active fields of different functions shown on “working surface of display” (23) of portable device in the form of graphical images which a user points at by means of fingertips. Using of frictional force, in this case incipient between fingertips and “working surface” (14) in “area of contact” (12), as a result practically brings to naught the number of false pointing (accesses) that cause performance of additional actions by a user which are required to cancel inputted functions by mistake, that respectively does not take extra time for these actions from a user within the process, in this case, of text input. Speed of communication of a user with portable palm-size logical device is increased respectively, in this case the speed of text input is increased as well.  Also hereby a user is provided with the possibility to efficiently use portable palm-size logical device by means of two hands and two corresponding thumbs of the hands simultaneously, which tips are used as a pointing means, at that a user has the possibility to fix position of these fingertips on “working surface” (14) due to frictional force when choosing the required function on this “working surface” (14), thereafter the speed of information input is increased in comparison with the device equipped with two coordinate devices.

As a result a user is provided with the possibility to perform quick and accurate micro movements on “working surface” (14) which are provided by frictional force incipient in modes of horizontal movements of touching between fingers surface and “working surface” (14), are obligatory necessary for providing the possibility of pointing minute graphical images of required functions, thereafter speed of a user’s communication with portable palm-size logical device is increased.

Also application of mechanical pressing sensor (3) and (8) as a device providing function input by pressing on “working surface” (14) provides clear feedback to a user in the form of tactile and sound confirmation – “click” – that the command providing function input is performed, here respectively such functional peculiarity of the proposed scheme of input devices gives the possibility to keep fingers on “working surface” (14) with clear tactile understanding for a user that before the fact of performing “click” or facts of deleting “area of contact” (12) from working surface” (14) no occasional inputs take place, and respectively it is provided the possibility to hold in relaxed condition muscles which control these fingers in process of durable access to portable palm-size logical device and hereby time of comfortable communication of a user with this device is increased by means of the scheme of input devices in the declared portable device.

At that in the declared portable palm-size logical device the replacement of the second additional coordinate device to simple pressing sensor (3) and (8) decreases the cost value of the given portable palm-size logical device in comparison with the prototype, besides simplifies the software of logical block (2) and reduces its load as logical block (2) in accordance with the invention reads (scans) simultaneously two “working surfaces”, 1- “working surface of coordinate device” 24,  and 2 – “working surface of display that forms graphical images” 23 instead of three “working surfaces” as in the known portable palm-size logical devices.

As a result, it is provided the possibility to replace expensive and sophisticated device that identifies facts of pressing and their coordinates on the “working surface”, which availability taking into account the proposed scheme of input devices in the declared portable palm-size logical device makes no sense at all, by at least one simplest and correspondingly many times cheaper and more reliable pressing sensor and at that to change slightly the construction of portable palm-size logical device case.

The availability in the portable palm-size logical device at least one more additional pressing sensor (8) and scan-code at each pressing sensor (3) and (8) of corresponding own certain part of “working surface” (14) provides the possibility to work on this “working surface” (14) at least by two user’s fingers simultaneously, at that logical block (2) is provided with the possibility to identify which of fingers the fact of pressing or fact of letting off after pressing with saving recognizable pointing on “working surface” (14) belongs to. As a result of this when using at least two fingers simultaneously for communication with portable palm-size logical device it is provided the possibility to eliminate from the construction of portable palm-size logical device expensive additional coordinate device, in the meantime to retain functional facilities of this device and to increase respectively its reliability and speed-up texts typing.

As a result of application of the given additional function, which provides identifying initial “point of pointing” (21) logical block (2) has the possibility in each case of formation of “area of contact” (12) on “working surface of coordinate device” (24) to identify the reference point for calculation of the position of the formation point of “pointing part” (9) in the coordinate system of “working surface” (14). As a result portable devices are provided with the possibility to point the required active fields (15) (17) on “working surface of display” (23), which have size less than “areas of contact” (12) having formed by user’s pointing fingers on “working surface” (14). Identifying coordinates of “point of pointing” (21) on “working surface” (14) of corresponding “area of contact” (12) of pointing fact, provides the possibility to designate position of “pointing part” (9) at the specified distance H from this “point of pointing” (21) on “working surface of display” (23) at each recognizing of fact of pointing on “working surface of coordinate device” (24). Designation of “point of pointing” (9) at the specified distance H from this “point of pointing” (21) provides the possibility to place on “working surface” (14) the fact of pointing (fingertip) and corresponding “area of contact” (12) not on the active area of required symbol (15) (17) but next to this active field (15) (17), consequently it is provided the possibility to designate active fields (15) (17) of required symbols, which dimensions are less than dimensions of user’s pointing fingertips and dimensions of corresponding “areas of contact” (12) on “working surface” (14), and at that to recognize by a user visually designated active fields (15) (17) of required symbols on “working surface of display” (23), which coordinates on “working surface of display” coincided with coordinates of “pointing part” (9) on “working surface of display” (23).As a result there is the possibility to access minute symbols having formed on “working surface of display”(23) of portable palm-size logical device by means of user’s fingertips.

Identifying this “pointing part” (9) existing on “working surface of display” before the fact of deleting corresponding to it “area of contact” (12) on “working surface of coordinate device” (24) provides the possibility to keep free the informational area of “working surface of display” (23) from graphical image of the pointing means – cursor – that is provided with “pointing part” and its virtual handle while facts of pointing are not recognized by coordinate device (See device chosen as a prototype,  (10) ¹ US 20030146905 A1,  (21) 10/327,681, (30) 20 December 2001 (FI) 20012540, (54) «USING TOUCHSCREEN BY BOINTING MEANS»,  (73) assignee: Nokia Corporation), that provides a user with the possibility to concentrate his attention at the choice of required symbols on “working surface” (14) and not to draw away attention, in process of pointing at required active fields of necessary symbols, to constantly springing on “working surface” graphical image of a cursor and its virtual handle, that leads to improving ergonomics and increasing typing speed.

Because of that the surface of fingertip is soft and in case of providing initiation of necessary frictional force, as mentioned above, and when it is used the coordinate device based on recognizing tactile touching and pressing on its “working surface of coordinate device” (24), in process of these pressing and touching “area of contact” (12) formed by fingertip can change its dimensions and shape as well, and also in connection with that when coordinate device that identifies “area of contact” (12) is applied before actual touching “working surface of display” (23) in process of approaching or mowing away fingertip in relation to “working surface of coordinate device” (24), that recognizes facts of pointing at distance, the corresponding increasing or reducing of “area of contact” (12) takes place, for excepting inaccuracies and providing bumpless and clear positioning of “pointing part” (9) the calculation of movement value of this “pointing part” (9) and its movement on “working surface of display” (23) by means of determining the value of horizontal movement of “area of contact” on “working surface of coordinate device” 24 are begun to perform only taking into account that “area of contact (12) has moved horizontally or changed its dimensions by more than specified number of units of “working surface of coordinate device” (24) to any side for a certain number of frames by corresponding frame by frame scanning “working surface of coordinate device” (24) and “working surface of display” (23). As a result , the regulation of movement sensitivity of “pointing part” (9) on “working surface of display” (23) is provided and at that the exact bumpless positioning of this “pointing part”(9) is provided as well. Thereafter as a result the regulation of movement sensitivity of a cursor image provided by this “pointing part” (9) on “working surface of display” (23) is provided and at that the exact bumpless positioning of this cursor on “working surface of display” (23) in case if it is used and all inaccuracies in this positioning are excepted, that leads to improving ergonomics and increasing input speed.

That is, by each horizontal movement of “area of contact” (12) on “working surface of coordinate device” (24) the given function does not take into consideration relocation of “area of contact” (12) to any side by 360 degrees by the specified number of units of “working surface of coordinate device” (24) for a certain period of time.

The possibility to show on “working surface of display” (23) the graphical image of cursor that is provided with “pointing part” (9) gives a user the possibility to access directly graphical images of virtual objects such as virtual control tools and characters of computer games which are changed graphically within every such access, as a result interactive facility is increased and presence effect is created in case of usage of this function in portable television-game devices. Thus, application of the proposed scheme of input devices as a game manipulator as it was mentioned in international application (21) ÐÑÒ/UA2003/000045, (10)WO2004/068330 À1, about which you have been informed before, seems to be the most efficient in comparison with known portable input devices.

The most preferable performance of the proposed device seems to be in the form of device shown on fig. 16, that contains a whole waterproof case 1, part of this case is elastic and made in the form of elastic element 4 that provides mobility to opposite to each other parts of case 1, and contains pressing sensors 3 and 8 as well;
